Throughout his football career, people have looked at Karl Joseph as a big hitter.

The play of the day belonged to rookie safety who secured an impressive interception in the end zone on a pass thrown from Carr. After the pass was thrown, Joseph leapt into the air, coming over the top, and snatching the football before wide receiver Michael Crabtree had a chance to make a play on it.

As Joseph alluded, the Raiders defense has yet to secure its first interception of 2017, and while the group’s 13 sacks are tied for 31st in the league, it’s seemed like when the offense has really needed the ball back at the end of a half or a game, Ken Norton, Jr.’s group found a way to force a stop.

Joseph is healthy right now – a fact that’s hard to overstate – and after one game, a healthy, comfortable Karl Joseph looks like he’ll be a force to be reckoned with in 2017. “It’s just really about playing together,” Joseph said. “I think when the offense needs us, we have to step up, and come up with a stop, and give them the ball, give them a chance to go win the game for us, and same thing, when we need the offense to score for us, when we’re not necessarily playing too good or whatever, they always step up and put up the points.”

However, in 2017, Joseph wants you to know that he’s more than just a big-hitting safety who lays the lumber. I know it’s important not to overreact to one game, but Joseph showed a little something tonight, and that’s good for the Raiders defense a whole.

“He’s impactful,” said McKenzie when asked about Joseph during his chat with the media Thursday. “I mean his mindset is trying to knock people from the ball, that’s his… he’s more that type [of player] than a ball hawk, but if he gets the opportunity to catch it he will. I know he’s been having a little minor injury where hasn’t been available in games, but he’s been good for us, and he’ll continue to get better the more he plays.”

With the team entering its bye week, the coaches will take the time to evaluate what’s transpired to this point, Raiders jerseys china and while the rest of the Raiders season remains to be seen, I think it’s safe to say that the production from Joseph and Alexander has been a blessing.

The day after his selection, Joseph spoke exclusively to Raiders.com by phone from Haiti, and shared his thoughts about being the newest member of the Silver and Black, as well as describing his game and the way he approaches his craft.

“It felt good, man,” Joseph said of his performance. “Game started slowing down as the series went on but it felt like we did a great job. We were locked in all week and it showed. I think it was about doing my job. I wasn’t trying to do too much or do anything extra but just do my job. If everybody does their job it shows how dominant we can be on defense.”

Like most of the Raiders defensive starters, Joseph played sparingly in the preseason opener, but he no doubt made his presence felt during the time he was on the field, finishing his abbreviated evening with three tackles, and one tackle for loss, including a thundering hit on Cardinals running back David Johnson.

Following the team’s return to the Bay Area, Head Coach Jack Del Rio was once again asked about Joseph’s performance, and once again he provided a positive review of the rookie’s first NFL start.

Under the direction of first-year Head Coach Vance Joseph, the Broncos sit in fourth place in the division with a 3-7 record. Denver will head into its Week 12 matchup against the Raiders coming off a 17-20 loss to Cincinnati. Denver took the first game in the series against Oakland, defeating the Raiders 16- 10 on the road in Week 4.
